Summary

We should stress that we cannot and will not accept responsibility for any consequential damage, loss or virus infection that you might suffer as a result of following these instructions.

This article provides suggestions and guidelines as to how to configure your virus protection to get the best performance from Platinum.

SEEK ADVICE Should you be in any doubt as to the effect the changes that you make are having, then please seek advice from our hotline support.

More Information

It is very important to have some method of virus protection on your PC's but because of the nature of the way this type of software works it can adversely affect the speed and use of programs that are stored on a central server that run across a network such as Platinum. Most protection programs have an option to allow the user to configure "Exclusions".

The general exclusions that are required here are the Platinum data and temporary files. We would not recommend any other exclusions.

It is also a good practice to try and make sure that the Virus software does not run scans during work hours as to prevent any possible "slow down" affect for users.

Platinum Data Files

Your exclusion list should show something like:

  • 'P:\SX\SXCo1\SX*.E*'
  • 'P:\SX\SXCo1\SX*.D*'
  • 'P:\SX\SXCo1\*.TMP'
  • 'P:\SX\SXCo1\*.TP?'
  • '\\Server\Share\SX\SXCo1\SX*.E*'
  • '\\Server\Share\SX\SXCo1\SX*.D*'
  • '\\Server\Share\SX\SXCo1\*.TMP'
  • '\\Server\Share\SX\SXCo1\*.TP?'

There are some variables here of which you should be aware.

  • The 'P:' may be different on your system. This represents the drive letter on which your Platinum Software is installed. Please call Hotline support if you are unsure as to what this should be.
  • The '\\Server\Share' will be different on your system. This represents the network location to which your drive letter above is mapped.
  • If you have more than one company on your system, then you must add extra lines where the 'SXCo1' is replaced by 'SXCo2', 'SXCo3' and so forth.
If your virus scanner doesn't support Wildcard inclusions you will need to put in the entries below using the rules above. This will cause the performance benchmark within Platinum to report an error about antivirus configuration.
  • 'P:\SX\SXCo1\'
  • '\\Server\Share\SX\SXCo1\'

Platinum Temporary Files

If your Platinum system is configured with local temporary files (which will be true if your system was installed from April 2012 onwards, or for some of our longer serving customers, we have changed your configuration for you) then you will need to set up the following extra exclusions.

  • 'C:\ProgramData\Catalyst\CR32\Temp\SXCo1\*.TMP'
  • 'C:\ProgramData\Catalyst\CR32\Temp\SXCo1\*.TP?'

and/or

  • 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Catalyst\CR32\Temp\SXCo1\*.TMP'
  • 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Catalyst\CR32\Temp\SXCo1\*.TP?'

As before, there are some variables of which you should be aware.

  • If you have more than one company on your system then you must add extra lines where the 'SXCo1' is replaced by 'SXCo2', 'SXCo3' and so forth.
  • The machine's location of the temporary files can be confirmed by checking the 'SX_TEMP' entry in the [Environment] tab of the " Help About Platinum" option.
Again if your virus scanner doesn't support Wildcard inclusions you will need to put in the entries below using the rules above. This will cause the performance benchmark within Platinum to report an error about antivirus configuration.

Setting for Windows Vista and above;

  • 'C:\ProgramData\Catalyst\CR32\Temp\SXCo1\'

Platinum Server Files

On your Platinum server only, you should add the following (which are especially important if you have CDM Server):

  • 'C:\Platinum\SX\SXCo1\SX*.E*'
  • 'C:\Platinum\SX\SXCo1\SX*.D*'
  • 'C:\Platinum\SX\SXCo1\*.TMP'
  • 'C:\Platinum\SX\SXCo1\*.TP?'

As before:

  • The 'C:\Platinum' may be different on your system. This represents the physical drive and folder on your server in which Platinum Software is installed.
  • If you have more than one company on your system then you must add extra lines where the 'SXCo1' is replaced by 'SXCo2', 'SXCo3' and so forth.
Again if your virus scanner doesn't support Wildcard inclusions you will need to put in the entry below using the rules above. This will cause the performance benchmark within Platinum to report an error about antivirus configuration.
  • 'C:\Platinum\SX\SXCo1\'

Platinum Webdaemon

The Platinum Webdaemon Application will also need to be excluded. This is normally installed on your server.

For 32bit Systems the following file will need excluding;

  • 'C:\Program files\webdaemon\webdaemon.exe'

For 64bit Systems the following will need to be excluded;

  • 'C:\Program files (x86)\webdaemon\webdaemon.exe'
