Configuring your virus protection for use with Platinum

This article provides suggestions and guidelines as to how to configure your virus protection to get the best performance from Platinum.

It is very important to have some method of virus protection on your PC's but because of the nature of the way this type of software works it can adversely affect the speed and use of programs that are stored on a central server that run across a network such as Platinum. Most protection programs have an option to allow the user to configure "Exclusions". The Following article talks you through how to configure the most popular Virus Protection programs to reduce these conflicts to a minimum.


Norton Antivirus 2009

  • Right click the "Yellow Norton circle" icon near Clock in bottom right.
Tip: Click [< <] symbol if this is not visible.
  • Go to "Settings".
  • Left Click the "Exclusions/Low Risks" Heading.
  • In the "Scan Exclusions" Section Click the [Add] button.
  • Go to "Auto Protect Exclusions".
  • Left click the [Add] Button. This brings up a "Browse" Box. Browse to your Platinum installation Drive E.g. P:\Sx Left Click and then Click [OK] button.

AVG Free 8.5

  • Right click Yellow/Blue/Green/Red box icon near clock in bottom right .

  • Go to "Tools" -> "Advanced Settings".
  • Click the "Resident Shield" heading and click the "+" symbol.
  • Left click "Exceptions".
  • Click [Add Path]. This brings up a "Browse" Box. Browse to your Platinum installation Drive E.g. P:\Sx Left Click and Click the [OK] button.

Avast! Antivirus 4.8 Home Edition/Professional Edition

  • Right click the Blue "A" circle icon near clock in bottom right.
Tip: Click the [< <] symbol if this is not visible.
  • Go to "Program Settings".
  • Left click "Exclusions".
  • Left click the [Browse] button.
  • This Brings up a "Select the Areas" box Browse to your Platinum installation Drive E.g. P:\Sx, Left click the empty Box next to this. A tick will appear and "P:\Sx" will appear in the "Selected paths" section on the lower part of the box and click the [OK] button.

BullGuard

  • Open Bull Guard
  • Click the "Anti-virus" option (2nd Down on left hand side of window)
  • Click "Scan Exclusions"
  • Click the "Folder" Tab
  • Click the [+] (Bottom Left)
  • This brings up a "Browse" Box. Browse to your Platinum installation Drive E.g. P:\Sx Left Click and Click the [OK] button.
