How do I Change the Drive Letter of my Backup Device?

Summary

The following article explains how to change the drive letter of you backup device. Often when you buy a new pen or use one that had not been used with Platinum Backup before it may need to be reset.

More Information

  • Right click Your "My Computer" Icon (Usually Top left of your windows desktop).
  • Left click "Manage".
  • In the Left had section of the "Computer Management" window that opens look for "Storage" section.
  • Within the "Storage" Section look for "Disk Management" and Left Click.
  • In the Right hand portion of the window you should see your backup media (e.g. Removable Disk - KINGSTON G:). Once you've found it right click.
  • Left Click "Change Drive Letter and Paths".
  • Left Click [Change].
  • On the "Change Drive Letter or Path" box look for the line saying "Assign the following Drive letter."
  • Left Click the Down Arrow on the drop down box where the current drive letter is shown (e.g. G:) and change to the different drive letter required (e.g. X:) and Left Click [OK]
  • A "Confirm" box will then appear with a message that says:
Changing the drive letter of a volume might cause programs to no longer run.
Are you sure you want to change this drive letter?

                                        YES                              NO
  • Click [Yes] to change you backup devices letter and close the "Computer Management" box.
