Summary

This article will explain how you can delete either a Customer(Sales Ledger) or a Supplier(Purchase Ledger) Account.

However it is NOT advised to delete customers or suppliers as this will break any audit trails in the system. Once an account has been deleted it CAN NOT BE RETRIEVED

More Information

PROCEED WITH CAUTION - Deleting customers or suppliers should only be attempted if these accounts have never had any transactions.

If you have created an account by mistake and nothing has been posted to the account, then you can simply go to:

Customer Account
  • " Sales Ledger Customer File Maintenance Add or Edit Customers".
  • On "Search on:" enter the name of the customer.
  • Highlight the account that you wish to delete.
  • Press <F10> or click [Remove].
Supplier Account
  • " Purchase Ledger Supplier File Maintenance Add or Edit Customers".
  • On "Search on:" enter the name of the Supplier.
  • Highlight the account that you wish to delete.
  • Press <F10> or click [Remove].
If either type of account has transactions a message will appear saying "Transactions have been found on this account.". The only option you have is to click [OK].

If the account you are deleting gets the message above then you will need to clear down the history on the account. For more details of how to do this please click here.

Superseding an Account

If you would rather use an alternative account code you have the option to supersede an account. Please see How do I Supersede an Account? for further instructions.
