Summary

This article explains how to re-authorise your Platinum system to submit your VAT to HMRC.

More Information

Every 18 months you must re-authorise your system with HMRC. This is part of their system requirements.

When you reach or pass the 18 month period, on selecting your VAT period you will see a message on screen that advises your token is invalid.

  • Press <Enter> and you will be given the choice to [Authorise] your system.
Please stop at this point and read the following advice before clicking [Authorise].
  • Firstly please make sure you have the following information to hand:
    • Your Platinum Online User ID and Password.
    • Your Government Gateway User ID and Password
    • Access to the phone which you have linked to your Gateway account as you may be required to enter a one time passcode.
If you are not sure of your Platinum Online credentials please see this article: How do I set or change my Platinum Online Password?. You may need to open another copy of Platinum if you need to reset your Online Password.

Once you have the above information click [Authorise].

  • Platinum Online will open in your browser window.
    • Sometimes your browser will not bring this to your front screen. Please look at your taskbar at the bottom of your window to find your browser if necessary.
  • Enter your Platinum Online username and password and then click the [Login] button.
  • You will be taken to an authorisation screen within Platinum Online.
  • Click [Authorise].
  • You will now be taken to the sign in page on https://www.gov.uk/.
  • Enter your Government Gateway "User Id" and "Password" then follow the steps to log in using the access code they will send you.
You are no longer on a Catalyst website, you are now on the the UK Government Gateway website. Catalyst will never have access to your HMRC sign in credentials.
  • You will be taken to a page that will ask you to authorise Platinum as your software system for submitting your vat returns through the Making Tax Digital service.
  • Click [Grant authority].
  • You will then be taken back to Platinum Online where the activation date will be displayed on screen.
  • Click [Log out].
  • You will be returned to your VAT report and can now continue as normal.

Checking your authorisation date

To check when your authorisation date will expire, log in to Platinum Online.
