Summary

The following article explains how to manage backups on your Linux Platinum server.

Access Server Backup

To access your server backup configuration, visit your server's administration web page in your browser. The address will be similar to 'https://server:10000/' but with the word 'server' replaced with the name of your server. If you have received a e-mail informing you that the server backup failed, there is a link to the server's administration page in the e-mail.

You will be asked to login to Webmin. Enter an administrator's username & password to continue. Contact your Platinum dealer or our support team on 0116 230 1500 or by using our website support contact page if you are unsure of your server's login details.

Once you are logged in, using the menu on the left side of the screen, select " Servers Server Backup".

Download Backups

To download a backup, click on [View backups], then click [Download .tar.gz] and [Download .snar] for each backup you want to download.

View Logs

Click on [View Logs] to view the backup logs. You will be presented with a list of log files. The one at the top of the list will be the latest one. Click [View] to view the log file.

Once the log file is displayed, the last backup will be at the bottom of the file, which is displayed by default.

USB Backup

To backup to a USB drive, you will need to initialise it before it can be used.

  • Connect an empty USB drive to the server.
  • Click on [Initialise USB Device]
  • Next to the device, click [Initialise Device]

The device is now ready to use for daily backups.

To enable backups to a USB drive:

  • Click on [Edit Configuration]
  • Under '[usb]', set 'enabled' to '1'
  • Click [Save and close]

The server will now put the latest backup on an initialised USB drive after the backup next runs.
