Summary

This article explains why some of your status boxes in Platinum can appear to change size.

More Information

The printer status window can have up to the four phases.

  1. The first happens when the print device is first opened. This is the smallest version of the window. Nothing else will be able to open this print device. You will get a 'Printer not available error' if you try and print to the same device from another terminal or copy of Platinum.
  2. The report has just registered a heading. The printer status window will grow and display this extra information.
  3. The report has just registered it is printing data. Again the printer status window will grow to display this information.
  4. If the above three phases took less than 1 second when the report had finished, in order to give you at least some time to view where your report has gone, the printer status window will shrink to the size it was on the first phase and wait (The [Quit] button if there is one will be disabled) for 1 second.

Disabling Print Status

Should you not want to be deluged with all this information then you can always disable the print status window.

  • From anywhere within platinum, press <Alt+P> to open the "Print Record Override" window.
  • Press <Ctrl+F1> to open the "Print Record Search" window.
  • Press [Search] and select the Print Record you want to turn the status box off for. Once selected press the [Edit] to open the " Print Record Properties" window.
  • Set "Print Status" to 'Hide'.
  • Press [Done] and then [Accept] to save the change.
Just be warned that if you are on a large network with lots of printers and your report doesn't rattle out of the printer you were expecting you may 'lose' your report.
