Syntax

.09

Description

When printing, variables will normally take up a fixed amount of space each, regardless of how many spaces they contain at the start and/or end. If composing a letter or similar document this can lead to odd looking results, such as amounts showing a number of leading spaces and maybe a couple after. To avoid this then, you can choose to enable space compression which will shrink all occurrences of multiple spaces down to one.

Without space compression your document may read (_ indicates a space):

Your account balance stands at ____£123___. Please forward payment.

Adding space compression makes this a more readable:

Your account balance stands at £123. Please forward payment.
This variable can only be used in the report columns and cannot be used in the User Defined Sort Key or the report filters. This variable is only used on a printout, screen and file reports ignore this variable.
