Each version of Windows requires a different method to add the shortcut to your taskbar, ensure you follow the instructions appropriate to your version. Below will be instructions on how to add a shortcut/icon for Platinum to your Windows Taskbar.

Windows XP or Windows Vista

In order to add a Platinum shortcut/icon to the Taskbar in Windows XP or Windows Vista you will need to:

  • Right click on the Windows Taskbar (at the bottom of the screen).
    • Make sure that "Lock the Taskbar" is not enabled (without the Template:Tick).
  • Click and hold the left mouse button on an existing Platinum shortcut/icon.
    • If you do not already have an icon for Platinum follow the article here.
  • Still holding the left button down move the cursor towards the left hand side of the Taskbar. (Next to the [Start] button.)
    • This will drag faded image of the shortcut/icon to the Taskbar.
  • A "I" will appear. Move this to where you want the icon to be.
  • Release the left mouse button and the Platinum shortcut/icon will appear on the Taskbar.
  • To lock the Taskbar, simply right mouse click on the Taskbar and select "Lock the Taskbar" which will now show a Template:Tick.
Now to open Platinum simply click on the new icon in the task bar. The bonus of this is that you can easily open up another copy of Platinum when in Platinum without having to go back to the desktop.

Windows 7

In order to add a Platinum shortcut/icon to the Taskbar in Windows 7 You will need to:

  • Right mouse click on the desktop.
  • Highlight "New    " and select "Shortcut".
  • Click on the [Browse].
  • Click on "Computer".
    • Scroll down the list until you see the drive that Platinum is installed on (i.e. Typically (P:)).
    • Click on "SX".
    • Click on "SXIcons".
    • Select the Platinum shortcut/icon.
    • Click the [OK].
  • This will list the path to the icon you have selected.
    For Example:  "P:\SX\SXIcons\1 - Catalyst Computer Systems Limited.lnk"
  • Press <Home> key, which will place the cursor at the beginning of the line.
  • Type 'explorer' at the beginning of the line with a space.
    For Example:  explorer "P:\SX\SXIcons\1 - Catalyst Computer Systems Limited.lnk"
  • Click [Next].
  • Now type in the name for the shortcut/icon. (i.e. Catalyst Computer Systems Limited).
  • Click [Finish].
  • Right mouse click on the newly created shortcut/icon and go to "Properties".
    • Click [Change Icon...].
      • Click [Browse].
      • Click on "Computer".
      • Scroll down the list until you see the drive that Platinum is installed on (i.e. Typically (P:)).
      • Select the "SX" folder.
      • Select the "SXUtils" folder.
      • Select the 'CR32' application.
      • Click [Open].
      • Click [OK].
    • Click [Apply] followed by [OK].

Finally to Pin the newly created shortcut/icon to the Taskbar you will need to:

  • Right click on the shortcut/icon.
    • Click on "Pin to Taskbar".
      You can now move the newly created shortcut/icon on the desktop to the Recycle Bin
