Summary

The following article explains how to create a new print record in Platinum. This is useful, for example, if you want to print to a different printer from certain parts of Platinum. For example, all vehicle sales documents want to print to a colour printer, but parts and workshop documents should go to another printer.

More Information

  • From any screen in Platinum, press <Alt+P> to bring up the Print Record Override box.
  • Now press <Shift+F10> to get into the Printing Parameters.
  • Press <F6> to create a new print record.
  • Click [Copy] to copy an existing print record.
  • When prompted to choose which record to copy, press <Enter> on the "01" field.
  • You are now taken to a new Print Record screen and the cursor will be in the "Name:" field where the name of the record you copied will be displayed.
  • Amend the "Name:" field with a relevant description for the new print record. For example, 'Vehicle Sales Documents' would be a sensible name.
  • Get the cursor into the "Print Device:" field and type in the name of the printer you wish to print to; e.g.
Print Device : WIN:Printer Name
To get the name of your installed printer you wish to print to, go to "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Control Panel" -> "Printers and Faxes". This will work well for any printer directly attached to your machine.
  • The name of the printer may not be straightforward. There are two special settings you can use if the printer is not attached to your machine: 1) 'WIN:.' and 2) 'WIN:!'.
    • 'WIN:.' - This will print to your Windows default printer. This is indicated in the "Printers & Faxes" area of your machine by a small black tick against one of the printers.
    • 'WIN:!' - This allows you to choose the printer before you actually print. The choice of printers is dictated by the options in your "Printers & Faxes" area.
  • If you are operating Platinum from a remote site, this requires specialist set-up and you should contact Sales on (0116) 230 1500 for a quote.
