Summary

This article explains how to export stock items and certain items on the vehicle file from Platinum to eBay using eBay's 'Selling Manager Pro' and 'File Exchange' tools.

Choosing to Export to Selling Manager Pro

  • Go to " Reports & Settings Maintenance Options System Administrator Platinum Settings".
  • Search for 'eBay management solution'.
  • Select 'eBay management solution' from the list and press [Edit].
  • At "eBay management solution", choose 'Selling Manager Pro / File Exchange'.
  • Press [OK].
  • Press [Done] and [Accept] the change.

Setting up your eBay Page in Platinum

Exporting items to eBay is done through the " Platinum O+ Site Maintenance" programme.

  • Go to " Reports & Settings Maintenance Options Platinum O and Catalyst Findit Platinum O+ Site Maintenance".

If you use Platinum O, you will have the list of the pages on your website on the list on the left hand side. You can choose to export items from these existing pages (useful if you already have categorised pages for your website or you have an eBay store) or alternatively you can set up new pages that are used exclusively for exporting to eBay.

  • Choose an existing or create a new page.
    • For new pages created to export to eBay only:
      • Move to the "Details" tab.
      • At "Status", choose 'Page under development'. This prevents the page from being uploaded to your website.
  • Move to the "eBay" tab.
  • At "eBay page", choose 'Yes'.
  • The other items on this page are defaults which will be used for all the items added to the page.
    • At "Category", enter the item category that you want the items on the page to appear on when listed on eBay. The list of category numbers is maintained by eBay and can be found by following the links from this page. You can override the category on an item by item basis by entering a category at "Category" on the "Web Publishing" tab in " Stock Properties".
    • At "Store Category", if you have an eBay store, you may enter the store page number you want the items to appear on here. You can enter the name of the page in the following box.
    • At "Accept credit cards", choose 'Yes' or 'No' depending on whether or not you accept credit card payments.
    • At "Dispatch time", choose the maximum amount of time it takes from receiving the order to getting the item posted out.
    • At "Shipping service", enter the shipping service you will use to deliver. The list of possible services you can enter here is maintained by eBay, you can find it by following this link.
    • At "Shipping cost", enter the cost of postage that the buyer will have to pay.
    • At "Return notification time", choose the length of time the buyer has to inform you of their intention to return the item.
    • At "Return shipping paid by", choose the person who is responsible for covering the cost of returning the item.

Exporting Vehicles

This option is here to allow you to upload items that are stored on the Vehicle file such as caravan accessories or to upload vehicle types that are not currently supported by eBay Motors Pro. You cannot upload cars and motorcycles using this method; eBay will not accept these vehicles by this method. To export items from the Vehicle file that are not cars and motorcycles:

  • Create a new page.
  • Move to the "Details" tab.
  • At "Status", choose 'Page under development'.
  • At "Items type", choose 'Vehicles'.
  • Search for and add vehicles and [Accept] the changes using the steps listed above.

Creating the Export Files

  • Move to the "Items" tab.
  • Search for and add items to the "Allocated" list if necessary.
  • Move to the "Allocated" list.
    • Press <Shift+F7> to flag all the items in the list as 'Upload to eBay'.
    • Alternatively, you can highlight individual items and press <F7> to flag just that one item.
  • If you scroll the list to the right, you will see the items flagged as 'Upload to eBay' will have a 'Yes' in the "eBay" column.
  • Move back to the list of pages and [Accept] the changes.
  • Press <Shift+F2> to create the export files. You can choose to include all pages or just the page that is currently highlighted. The files created are 'ebayproduct.csv' and 'ebaytemplate.csv'; they will be found in the 'SXCO?' folder relating to the relevant company in your system; this will generally be 'SXCO1'.
  • Once exported, the items previously flagged to be uploaded will have those flags removed to prevent duplicate items being exported.

Uploading the Export Files to eBay

  • Log into eBay.
  • You will need to subscribe to eBay's 'Selling Manager Pro' and 'File Exchange' tools.
    • In the top left of the screen, hover over your name; this will reveal more options, choose "Account Settings".
    • On the left of the screen, you should see an option for "Subscriptions", click it.
    • You should see a list of available subscriptions.
      • First, press "subscribe" to subscribe to 'Selling Manager Pro'. This is a chargeable service.
      • Next, press "subscribe" to subscribe to 'File Exchange'.
    • You will now be able to upload files!
  • In the top right of the screen, hover over "My eBay"; this will reveal more options, choose "Selling".
  • On the left, towards the bottom you should see a link for "File Management Centre"; follow that link.
  • Follow the link on the left for "Upload inventory".
  • Now it is time to upload the files that were created in Platinum.
    • At "Email Address", set the email address where you would like a confirmation message to be sent.
    • Click "Choose file", browse to and choose 'ebayproduct.csv'.
    • Click "Upload".
    • Repeat but this time with the 'ebaytemplate.csv' file.
    • It can take a while for the files to be processed, if you go to "View upload results" you'll be able to view progress on your files.
    • Once the processing has finished, if you go to " My eBay Selling Manager Pro Inventory" you should see a list of your uploaded products and their associated listing templates.
    • If something has gone wrong, you should be able to diagnose it by going to "View upload results" and downloading the response file.
