Summary

This article will explain why the Platinum Backup is not copying the data from the 'SXBackup' folder to your desired device and the steps required to fix the problem.

More Information

Prior to going through this article it is advised that you read the Troubleshooting Your Platinum Backup article. Once you know that the problem is not down to the drive letter of the device and the device is visible, it could mean that either the external device is faulty or the size of the 'SXBackup.zip' file is too large for the device format.

To check the format of the external device and also the size of the 'SXBackup.zip' file, go through the following instructions.:

    • Go to " My Computer Platinum Drive (typically P:) SX SXBackup".
  • Right click on 'SXBackup.zip' and go to " Properties".
  • Check the "Size on disk:" figure.
    • Go to " My Computer".
  • Right click on the external device and go to " Properties".
  • Check what the 'File system:' says.

If your 'SXBackup.zip' is over '4GB' and your external device is formatted to 'FAT' or 'FAT32', you will need to reformat the external device.

The Reason
FAT and FAT32 are limited to a single file size of 4GB, even if the storage capacity of the device is greater. (e.g. 8GB,16GB,32GB etc.)

If neither of the above is true, then you will need to check again that the external device is inserted in the machine running SXBackup, that it is visible and that it is not full. Click here for more details.

Solution

To rectify this you will need to format the external device to be 'NTFS' format enabled. In order to do this you will need to:

  1. Right click " My Computer" and select 'Manage'.
  2. Open the " Device Manager" and find your external device under the "Disk Drives" heading (e.g. Kingston Data Traveler 2.0 USB Device.).
  3. Right click the external device and select 'Properties'.
  4. Click the [Policies] tab and select the 'Optimize for performance' option.
  5. Click [OK].
  6. Open " My Computer".
  7. Right click the external device.
  8. Select 'Format'.
  9. Choose 'NTFS' in the "File system:" selection box.
  10. Click [Start].
To safely remove the "newly formatted" external device, without causing data loss you will need to use the; "Safely remove Hardware" procedure or right click on the external device in Windows Explorer and select 'Eject'.
