Why is my Backup Not Copying to My External Device?

Summary
This article will explain why the Platinum Backup is not copying the data from the "SXBackup" folder to your desired device and the steps required to fix the problem.

Once you have gone through the reasons that can cause this problem and know that it is not down to the drive letter of the device and the device is visible. Would mean that either the external device is faulty or the size of the file is too large for the device format.
You will need to check the format of the external device and also the size of the SXBackup.zip file. To do this you will need to:
- Go to " My Computer or Computer Platinum Drive (typically P:) SX SXBackup".
- Right click on 'SXBackup.zip' and go to " Properties".
- Check what the "Size on disk:" is.
- Now Go to " My Computer or Computer".
- Right click on the external device and go to " Properties".
- Check what the 'File system:' says.
If your "SXBackup.zip" is over '4GB' and your external device is formatted to 'FAT' or 'FAT32', you will need to reformat the external device.
The Reason: FAT and FAT32 is limited to have a single file size of 4GB, even if you device storage capacity is greater than this (i.e. 8GB,16GB,32GB...). |
If neither of the above is true then you will need to double make sure that the external device is inserted in the machine running the SXBackup, is visible, is not full. Click here for more details.
Solution
To rectify this you will need to format the external device to be 'NTFS' format enabled. In order to do this you will need to:
- Right click " My Computer" and select 'Manage'.
- Open the "Device Manager" and find your external device under the "Disk Drives" heading (i.e. Kingston Data Traveler 2.0 USB Device.).
- Right click the external device and select 'Properties'.
- Choose [Policies] tab and select the 'Optimize for performance' option.
- Click [OK].
- Open " My Computer".
- Select 'Format' on the external device.
- Choose 'NTFS' in the "File system" selection box.
- Click [Start].
Important: Now to remove a external device safely without causing data loss you will need to use the "Safely remove Hardware" procedure or right click on the external device in Windows Explorer and select 'Eject'. |
