Summary

This article will guide you through downloading and updating the Windows Root Certificates which are used by CommsXL for processing credit card transactions.

More Information

TNS are currently investigating the root certificate that will be used moving forwards, and planning to update this on its production servers mid October 2011.

In order to have unbroken service after the change has been made, please ensure that you complete the following changes depending on the Operating System you are using:

These updates can be applied prior to any change to the CommsXL service. TNS suggest that you complete this as soon as possible. Remember that the update needs to be done on every PC that uses the credit card facility.

Windows XP

"Windows XP" Root certificates are upgraded via Windows Update by applying 'Update for Root Certificates.' Unfortunately this is not classified as a High Priority update, and therefore is not installed by the Automatic Updates process.

  • Go to Windows Update.
  • Choose 'Custom' rather than 'Express'.
  • On the left hand menu, choose 'Select by type', then 'Software, Optional':
  • Alternatively click here.

Windows 2003

The same update can be applied to "Windows 2003" servers, subject to the provisos in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931125

Windows Vista/Windows 7

"Windows Vista" and "Windows 7" automatically handle the root certificate process, (customer firewalls permitting). No further actions should be required for this.

Contact your Platinum dealer or our support team on 0116 230 1500 or by using our website support contact page, if you have any questions or problems with this.

Windows Validation

If you get a screen asking you to Validate windows you will need to:

  • Select 'English' as your "Change Language:"
  • Click the [Continue] button. Which will either:
    • Display a screen asking you to continue, if so simply click the [Continue] button.
    • This will save "GeninueCheck.exe" file to your system which you need to run. Which will display a code.
    • Click on the [Copy to Clipboard] button.
    • Back on the "Windows Validation" screen, type the code in.
    • Click the [Validate] button, which will then take you to a screen informing that you have "Genuine Microsoft Software".
    • Click the [Download] button to download "Rootsupd.exe" software which is the KP31125 Update.

Or,

This process needs to be ran by a user with Administrative rights, if not the Administrator
