Summary

As part of the complete solution that Catalyst provides, there is a facility to link Platinum to an external PDQ Machine. The third party software that is used to integrate into Platinum is called SmartCCard Lite. More Information

From any Payment Screen within Platinum; e.g. at Point Of Sale, Workshop Invoices etc, to get access to the SmartCCard Lite Software you need to press <F3>.

IMPORTANT - This must be done BEFORE pressing [Post].

Once you press <F3> in Platinum, it will launch the SmartCCard Lite software and request that it processes the payment for you. Once the request has been received, a form will be displayed by SmartCCard Lite. This form will display the transaction details passed to it from Platinum. At this stage you have a chance to [Cancel] the transaction or you can click [Accept] and [Proceed] to continue with payment.

Please note that the white bar at the bottom of this screen is referred to as the Status field. In this field important messages relating to the transaction are displayed.

Once [Accept] has been clicked, the status field will read "Authorisation in Progress..." and the blue LED monitor bar will now display "Authorisation in Progress".

At this point a prompt will appear on your Chip and Pin Device asking you to "INSERT / SWIPE CARD PLEASE".

  • Pass the terminal to the customer and ask them to insert their card.
  • Once the card had been inserted, the Status Field will display "Card Detected".
  • The Status Field will then display "Waiting for PIN Entry".
  • The customer has approximately 60 seconds to enter a PIN, if this time is exceeded, SmartCCard Lite will cancel the transaction.
  • The customer has up to 3 attempts to enter the correct PIN after which the transaction is cancelled.
  • The Status field will display "Online Authorisation in Progress" when SmartCCard Lite connects to authorise the transaction.
  • The time it takes to perform the authorisation process varies from Bank to Bank.
  • Once authorisation is complete, the Status Field will display "Authorisation Complete" and a Merchant copy of the transaction will be printed out for you to keep.
  • The customer will then be asked to remove their card.
  • On the SmartCCard Lite software window, press [OK] to continue and you will then get a Customer copy of the Transaction.

You are then returned back to the Payments screen in Platinum where you can now click [Post] and complete the transaction process.

Referrals

Some transaction responses from the bank will contain a referral code. This can occur if the amount goes above a certain limit, dodgy card and so on. The Status Bar will display the word 'REFERRAL'. If this is the case, a box will be displayed allowing you to input the code supplied by telephoning your acquirer.

  • You must enter the manual authorisation code in the box, or click the [Key Pad] button and use the Key Pad displayed and click <Enter>
  • Once you have entered the manual authorisation code, click on [Accept] to continue.
  • SmartCCard Lite will then contact the acquirer and submit the transaction containing the manual authorisation code. Click [OK] to complete the transaction.
