It is also important to keep in mind the file Size (in Megabytes) of your pictures attached to platinum and thus FindIt. Thanks to today's modern digital cameras it is possible to get large size images (A4) at a very small file size and still retain image quality. This is done by tweaking the image sizes on the menu on your camera. Although these vary from camera to camera here are some general hints to help you set up in the best way for vehicle pictures.

*Set your resolution setting (if your camera has one) to around 1600x1200. This is the biggest size you will need for website photos.

There are a couple of handy hints you can bear in mind when taking your photos that will help make them as effective as possible.
*Set your image quality setting (again, if your camera has one) to its lowest setting (there are usually something like Normal, Fine or Super Fine. Normal is more than adequate for website work and will keep the size of the images, in Megabytes low.)

Keeping the file size low means quicker uploads and will mean that photos will take less space on any backups you do. Should this become an issue the images can be compressed further using third party software or we can supply a routine built into Platinum to not only optimise your pictures but resize them all to the same image size and even watermark them with your company logo should you wish (Call Catalyst Software Support for details).

Summary

This article explains some ways to get the most out of the unit pictures you've added to your Platinum system.

More Information

Units: Unit is a general term used to cover all types of vehicle and machinery, including items such as motorcycles, scooters, cars, trucks, vans, caravans, motorhomes, boats, tractors, ATVs, agricultural equipment, wholegoods and construction equipment.

FindIt is a valuable and easy to use tool for getting your units advertised on the internet. However as with any method of advertising no pictures or bad pictures can limit, even harm your chances of a sale from it (it is 36 times more likely that your unit will have it's details viewed when it has a picture).

There are a couple of handy hints you can bear in mind when taking your photos that will help make them as effective as possible.

Enhance your Photos

  • Try to take your photos in a specific area at your site away from the rest of the units to avoid clutter in the background.
  • If possible have some kind of banner or poster showing your company name in the background to act as an advert for you company and make them stand out.
  • Take more than one picture per unit to highlight special features of your units.
e.g. For bikes - Race exhausts, Special Trim, Alloy wheels.
e.g. For cars - Special Trim, Alloy wheels, Interior Trim.
e.g. For caravans and motor homes - Layout, features, fitted features.

See the adding pictures article for more details.
