Summary

This article explains how to inform your Platinum system that you wish to submit VAT returns via HMRC's Making Tax Digital service.

More Information

You must register for Making Tax Digital with HMRC.

Please see the www.gov.uk HMRC website for further advice on how to register or speak to your accountant.

Once registered you wil receive confirmation from HMRC. This may take up to 72 hours.

Please ensure HMRC have confirmed you are subscribed to Making Tax Digital before proceeding.
Once your registration has been acknowledged by HMRC, you MUST follow the advice in this article. If you fail to do so and subsequently attempt to make a VAT submission through Platinum it will not be submitted to HMRC.

Switching on the service

Go to " Reports & Settings Maintenance Options System Administrator Platinum Settings".

  • In the "Search on" field, enter 'Reg' and press <Enter>.
  • Click "V.A.T. registration number" and press [F5] or click [Edit].
  • Enter your V.A.T. reg number without spaces.
  • Click[OK]
  • Click "Registered for Making Tax Digital" and press [F5] or click [Edit].
  • Select 'Yes' from the drop down option.
  • Click[OK]

You must also have the system setting "Check updates automatically" set to 'Yes'.

  • In the Search on field, enter 'updates'.
  • Set the "Check updates automatically" flag to 'Yes' if it isn't already set.
  • Click [OK]
  • Click [Done].
  • Click [Accept] to confirm the changes.
If the updates flag was set to 'No', click on [Help] at the top of the screen. Select [About Platinum] and then click [Online Check]. This will ensure that the necessary details are updated.

Your Platinum Software is now ready to be authorised for the Making Tax Digital service. Please now follow the steps in this article.
