This article explains how to update your Platinum software and the advantages of keeping it up to date.

Customers with a current software maintenance contract are entitled to update the system to the latest version at any time.

Why Should I Upgrade?

The authors are continually striving to improve the software in the following ways:-

Enhancements

We constantly add new concepts and ideas to the software in order to make it ever more useful. Not all ideas are of interest to all of our clients but we do listen to client feedback and act on it, as well as contributing new ideas of our own.

As so many new features are added the chances are that at least some will help you.

Ease of use

We constantly review the ease of use of the software and where possible make it easier to use. We do this by removing keystrokes, redesigning screens to give a more intuitive more graphical interface and we also improve the help available, this very article being an example. All of these changes make it easier to train new staff, saving time and thus expense.

Third Party Links

We interface to many third party software products. From time to time the interfaces to these products change due to the third party company.

Interface changes are generally imposed on us by an external third party company and are thus beyond our control.

Ensuring your systems remains up to date will allow you to benefit from any changes to existing integrations.

Reliability

It is in everybody's interest that the software is as reliable as it can be made. Advances in hardware performance mean that it is ever more possible to make the software more reliable whilst continuing to run at an acceptable pace.

Bug Fixes

No software is without bugs. Although we strive to test our software fully before release, when one of our hundreds of users reports a problem, we place a very high priority on correcting reported issues.

Updating your software ensures that you are running the version of the software with any corrections which have been put into place.

How Often Should I Update?

We would suggest you plan to update the system at least once a month to ensure you are getting the full benefit of any changes and enhancements to the software.

What Happens if I Don't Update?

In theory you are perfectly able to continue using the software in its current state but you would then be missing out on any enhancements which may be of benefit to you e.g. Additional functionality, additional reports, new fields etc.

Occasionally you will be required to update due to changes required by a third party such as HMRC. Whilst we would send out a communication advising you to update, if you were to miss this notice or fail to act on it you may be using an out of date process.

The longer the gap between updates the more likely it is that there will be a greater number of changes to become accustomed to and having to cope with a large number of changes "all at once" may not be desirable!

In short we would advise you plan to update on a monthly basis, read any changes listed following the update and keep an eye on our website advising of latest features.
