Summary

This article explains what the " Open Link" does in the " Options" menu at the top of Platinum.

More Information

It is possible to use the information at the cursor to launch your email package, browser or on-line map.

This menu option (available by pressing the <Alt+O> key) will look at the data where the cursor is on and try and open the document relating to the text found there.

Email

If you are on an email address (e.g. support@catalyst-uk.com) then your email package will be started with the 'To:' address field filled in.

Website

If you are on a website address (e.g. www.catalyst-uk.com) then your web browser is started to view that site.

Address

If you are on address field and have access to the internet the post code is used to bring up a web site with a street map for that post code.
You can change the website that the system opens when using this [Open link] option to your preference (i.e. Google Maps, Bing e.t.c.). For more help on how to do this, see here.

Files

If none of the above apply, starting with the word your cursor is on and then starting from the beginning of your text, Platinum will try and find a document that matches each word in your text. When found it will launch the application to view that document.
For example if you are on a text field and the cursor is on a picture filename 'bike.jpg', if Platinum finds 'bike.jpg' in your 'Data Paths' (Set up from " Reports & Settings Maintenance Options System Administrator Platinum Settings") then your picture viewer will be launched for 'bike.jpg'.
